Blessed John Paul II reminded us that “[i]n the moral conscience, God speaks to each one and invites him to defend human life at all times. In this personal bond with the Creator lies the profound dignity of the moral conscience and the reason for its inviolability.” Pope Benedict XVI, Papal Address to the Pontifical Academy for Life (Feb. 28, 2011)
University of St. Thomas law professor Teresa Collett will speak on the importance of conscience in guiding healthcare decisions and what this means for families, healthcare providers, and government officials.
Collett is the Director of the Prolife Center at the UST Law School, where she teaches courses in property, bioethics, and constitutional litigation. She also currently serves as Special Attorney General for the State of Oklahoma defending that state’s law requiring ultrasounds prior to performance of abortions. In 2009, Pope Benedict XVI appointed her as a consultor to the Pontifical Council for the Family.
Co-sponsored by the Catholic Medical Association, the Diocese of Winona, and the Minnesota Catholic Conference.
