Student Letter Writing Campaign to Governor Dayton

Thousands of Minnesota kids already benefit from a great non-public school education. So why not have parents and students share their positive experiences with Governor Dayton—and ask him to extend the same opportunity to others?
Have parents and students (following your school’s rules and with parental permission) write a letter to Governor Dayton and legislators, asking them to support the Opportunity Scholarship Tax Credit. When your school has completed your letters, mail them altogether to Governor Dayton’s office:

Office of Governor Dayton & Lt. Governor Tina Smith
130 State Capitol
75 Rev Dr. Martin Luther
St. Paul, MN 55155

You can find address for your State Senator and State Representative by visiting the legislature’s Who Represents Me? Webpage: http://www.gis.leg.mn/iMaps/districts/
Having parents and students sending personalized letters is a great way to get our messages across. Below are some sample messages for different age groups:

Dear Governor Dayton / or Senator ______ / or Representative ________ ,
Thank you for your service to our state, and your commitment to ensuring that each Minnesota student has access to a quality education.
I am very fortunate. I currently attend ____________ school, where I receive an outstanding education. In particular, I appreciate being able to ________________. This is the best fit for me.
But I know that there are students in Minnesota who do not have the same opportunities that I have. Their choices in education may be limited by how much money their family makes or where they live.
I think all kids should have access to a great education, regardless of their ZIP code or family income. I have recently learned about the Opportunity Scholarship Tax Credit, and think it can be part of the solution. This program would help provide scholarships for kids to attend the school of their family’s choice, and would make options more accessible to more students. If we approved this program, kids would have more opportunities to find the school that is best for them.
Governor Dayton, please support the Opportunity Scholarship Tax Credit, and help more students access the educational opportunities I currently enjoy.
Thank you,

Parents
Dear Governor Dayton / or Senator ______ / or Representative ________ ,
Thank you for your service to our state, and your commitment to ensuring that each Minnesota student has access to a quality education.
Our family is very fortunate. We currently send our child(ren) to ____________ school, where they receive an outstanding education. But there are too many children across Minnesota who do not have access to good education options.
We support the Opportunity Scholarship Tax Credit that is included in the House and Senate Tax Bills. Opportunity Scholarships would help remove financial barriers and allow students to attend the school of their family’s choice. Scholarship funds would come from private donations made to state-approved non-profit scholarship granting organizations. This would not impact the funding provided to public schools.
Our children are enjoying the benefits of an education that is right for them. Let’s give more Minnesota student similar opportunities. Please sign the Opportunity Scholarship Tax Credit into law.
Thank you,
