Minnesota Catholic Conference statement concerning today’s “Catholics for Choice” national ad campaign
Posted by Minnesota Catholic Conference · September 12, 2016 4:38 PM
A recent full-page advertisement in the Star Tribune, paid for by a national group calling themselves “Catholics for Choice,” woefully misrepresents the noble Catholic social justice tradition. By calling for public funding of abortion, “Catholics for Choice” disregards the need to defend vulnerable human life in all its stages—a principle at the core of authentic social justice.
If there is a desire to help a woman in need who is facing an unplanned pregnancy, the solution as a society is to provide her with the resources and support she needs to care for her child—not help her dispose of it. Pope Francis has repeatedly condemned such a mentality as part of the throwaway culture that attacks the dignity of the weak and vulnerable because they seem inconvenient and make a claim upon our care and resources.

Bishop John Quinn’s response to Supreme Court ruling on marriage

To the Faithful of the Diocese of Winona: Commit to Faith in Christ Jesus and Our Daily Relationships
Last week on June 26, 2015 the Supreme Court of the United States of America announced, that same sex marriage is legal in every state. This decision has far reaching consequences for our culture and is very divisive and disappointing. The Church however, will continue to teach and uphold the definition of marriage as the union of one man and one woman for the procreation and raising of children. At the same time, the Church will always welcome and reach out to those who are same sex attracted.

Bishop Hoeppner’s statement regarding the United States Supreme Court decision Obergefell v. Hodges
Posted by Most Rev. Michael Hoeppner · June 30, 2015 12:45 PM
On June 26, 2015, the Supreme Court of the United States, by a vote of 5-4, ruled that same-sex marriage is a fundamental human right guaranteed by the United States Constitution and by so ruling, legalized same-sex marriage in every state. This decision is a disappointing and tragic mistake. It is disappointing for all who know that God is the Creator of marriage and has given marriage to us as a sacred union between one man and one woman; it is tragic for it undermines the very foundation of society and its consequences will negatively impact the life of our nation for years to come; it is a mistake for according to both natural law and divine law, marriage is a union between one man and one woman and this decision making human law denies the truth and promotes a lie.

News Release: Minnesota Catholic Conference urges passage of the voting restoration bill

Criminal offenders have God-given dignity that calls for justice, not vengeance, as they are re-entering society
St. Paul, Minn (March 12, 2014)—The Minnesota Catholic Conference (MCC), the public policy office of the Catholic Church in Minnesota, today joined with their “Restore the Vote Minnesota” coalition partners at the Capitol to urge the passage of the voting restoration bill (HF 491 / SF 107) in Minnesota. The announcement coincided with the 7th Annual Second Chance Coalition Day on the Hill which, this year, focused its attention on the disenfranchisement of Minnesotans who have been convicted of a felony, but are no longer incarcerated and now living in the community.
